The Minor Arcana: Radicalizing Daily Life
Tarot's Minor Arcana is only as radical as our daily lives.
That shouldn't be surprising. We find all our day-to-day activities there. We locate our reactions and our mundane resistance there. We find our actions and the actions of others in the work of the Minor Arcana.
As such, we find opportunities in the Minor Arcana that are not present in the big work of the Major Arcana.
The way to harness the power of the Minor Arcana is to stay present with the boring parts of our existence. This is because the evaluation of daily life helps us find opportunities to live freer.
Endings and beginnings on a global scale are the work of the Major Arcana. Yet the events that push them there belong to the Minor Arcana.
Without dedication to small changes, whatever transformation the Major Arcana brings cannot succeed.
If we are to invert the archetypes of oppression, we must start today. Today is the realm of the Minor Arcana, as is tomorrow. The little steps that add up to big change live within the space of the Minor Arcana.
We must commit to undergoing a small transformation towards liberation each day. That is the work of the Minor Arcana.
How can we radicalize our daily life? We can revel in the mundane. We can commit to the beautiful drudgery of change. We can find the big work in the small work. We can live our politics. We can encourage those we love to live their politics as well.
As we expect more, consider more, and feel more in our daily existence, we can notice the presence of unfreedom and destroy it. So much hurt happens simply because we have learned to tolerate rather than feel.
Feeling our unfreedom creates the conditions we need to acknowledge reality. Doing so makes way for the work of transforming the world.
We transform our personal world as practice for shaping a new world.
